Weather and seasons in Thailand
As Thailand has a tropical climate, there are 3 seasons.
Summer:
April, May and June are the hottest months. Temperatures up to 40 Celcius are possible.
With the Thai new year festival in April, this is a very good season to visit Thailand if you can stand the heat.
Rainy season:
After the summer the rainy season comes along with the monsoon. It lasts from July till November with the peak in August and September. It rains almost every day, but downpoors normally last only 1 hour and are mostly at the end of the day.
Winter:
From November till March, this is the most comfortable season in Thailand as daytime temperatures are still around 32 Celcius, but evenings get cooler till 20 Celcius. In some mountanious areas temperatures can drop as low as 0 Celcius !!
In the North like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai it will be hotter in summer and cooler in the winter than in central Thailand like Bangkok, or on the coastline like Hua Hin, Pattaya, Phuket and the islands like Koh Samet, Koh Samui, Koh Chang etc.
